Frequently asked questions

How is GPA actually calculated?

Each letter grade is converted to grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, etc.), multiplied by the course's credit hours, then divided by total credit hours. See our full GPA calculation guide.

Does this use a weighted or unweighted scale?

This calculator uses the standard unweighted 4.0 scale. If your school uses a weighted scale for honors/AP courses, see our guide on weighted vs unweighted GPA.

What if my school uses plus/minus grades differently?

Grade point values for plus/minus grades vary slightly between institutions. This calculator uses the most common scale (A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, etc.) — check your school's official scale if yours differs.

Is my data saved anywhere?

No. Every calculation happens locally in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to or stored on our servers.

How do I calculate my cumulative GPA across multiple semesters?

Enter your prior cumulative GPA and total prior credit hours in the fields above the course table — the calculator combines them with this term's courses automatically.
